Guthix's Fist

13/04/2008

A new combat based minigame has been added to Runescape. This can be found by travelling north of Varrock into the wildy and entering the cave marked on the map with the minigame icon.

The game is based around 2 combatants trying to accumulate more points than each other in 2 rounds. One hunts while the other is hunted and then the roles are reversed. The winner receives ranking points and tokens. The tokens can be used to purchase all new items.

Rewards include new armours for all three combat types, new berserker shields and new skilling gloves that help out in herblore, fishing, slayer and runecrafting. For more detailed information on these new items, you can check them out in the Runescape knowlege base.

In video making news, I am working on something that will be uploaded later this evening.

Summoning 2 + Roflcopters

31/03/2008

Summoning has just been upgraded and in a BIG way. Almost everything in the skill has been completely recalculated to give players far greater rewards when working on the skill. Here are a few keypoints:

1. Summoned familiars now stay out for a longer SET period of time and have improved abilities.
2. You now gain experience when your familiar inflicts damage in combat. The type of xp received varies with each familiar.
3. Familiars now hit harder and have higher defence so are much more useful for combat training
4. 20 more summoning monsters drop charms plus charms have now been added to the thieving skill.
5. More mini obelisks have been added.
6. Many helms in the game can now store summoning scrolls plus the inventory size of carrying familiars has been increased.
7. More high level familiars have been added to the game.

Quite a lot then :) These improvements will go no small way towards making the skill more popular amongst players. For more detailed information on these you should visit the Runescape knowledge base.

In other Runescape news. You can now take Gnome helicopter rides from Lumbridge to various places in Runescape. This is directed more at FTP than it is towards people already playing and will doubtless encourage a lot of non playing Runescapers to start new subscriptions (which is the general idea of course).

Video Directors!

31/03/2008

I've finally got around to the Video Director pages on this site and have just uploaded a few complete profiles for visitors to view.

When complete there will be around 20 director profiles here on Runegamer. These profiles will be a valuable source of information for budding Runescape video makers. If you want to find out how some of the best video makers got to where they are today then you can do so by clicking here.

Currently to view are profiles on Dudefish 15, FatWrecked, ShySteph, SoullessDeparture,Vinchenzo900 and Vodka5. Many more are on the way, I hope you like the new area.

BUNNEH!! Happy Easter Everyone =)

18/03/2008

The Easter Bunneh has returned in Runescape along with a seasonal event plus reward in way of an epic emote.

You can start this event by going to the rabbit hole located just north of the Rimmington mine. Once inside the burrow, talk to the large bunneh and follow his instructions to complete the event. Don't forget to ask for clues when it comes to finding the chocolate eggs as this speeds things up considerably.

In video making news... Thanks to everyone who has reminded me I haven't made a new video in a few weeks... I am currently working on something which will be uploaded in the next few days. Thanks to the people who helped take part in this and I hope you guys like it when I finally upload.

Hunt for Surok + other updates

05/03/2008

A new boss has been added to the Chaos tunnels which, when defeated, offers slayer experience and a few high level charms as a reward. To fight the boss you must first talk to Surok by the Saradomin statue east of Varrock. This done, make your way through the tunnels looking for footprints by the portals until you get to the boss.

I suggest you go full ranger armour and use protect against melee with the boss. Superset, prayer pot and a full inventory of food are highly recommended. You can return to this boss once a day to claim these rewards. This should work well with people training melee combat in the tunnels.

In other Runescape news, the lootshare system has been updated so that players in the same clan receive an equal cash amount when an item is dropped whilst teaming high level monsters. At the Grand Exchange, a few changes have been made to the user interface to make buying and selling a little easier.

Grease Karaoke - MP3 Download

03/03/2008

The long awaited Grease Karaoke MP3 is now available for download right here at Runegamer!

You've seen the movie, now you can have the karaoke song on your own PC for FREE! The song contains vocals from some of the most famous Runescape video makers on Youtube and can be very easily downloaded by clicking here.

In other news, the Vinesweeper game has been improved in various ways. What this amounts to is that the farming XP rate of this minigame has been improved by some way. Further testing will be carried out to find out just how much of an improvement this really is.

In news of a slightly more personal nature, I have very quickly settled in at my new address. Thanks to everyone who sent me nice messages about this. In the end I was only without an internet connection for just a few hours during which time the forum was taken care of by Wolfie and recently promoted Chaosmage020.

Vinesweeper - Not for serious players

20/02/2008

The new Runescape minigame is very similar to the well know "minesweeper" game for windows except that other people playing at the same time can really spoil your game.

Travel to this new area by talking to a any tool leprechaun, pick up some flags and a spade from inside the house. That done, step into the muddy field and play for points that can be exchanged for xp, more flags and seeds.

The xp and seed rate in this minigame is VERY slow. If you do this minigame at all then it should be for the fun only as you will get far more in the way of potential farming experience from skills like slayer and woodcutting plus you get xp in those other skills at the same time.

Update rating 3/10

New Quest + Guide - Catapult Construction

14/02/2008

A new quest has been released onto the game! Most of the quest takes part in the Elf land of Isafdar and to complete the quest you need to also have completed the quest Regicide.

A guide for this new quest is already complete and uploaded to Runegamer - special thanks to ShySteph for helping out in the making of this guide. To view this latest guide here on Runegamer, simply click here.

New Graphics, Air Guitar and Dudefish_15 FTW

06/02/2008

This month, Jagex have released some graphical updates onto the game, the best of which can be found in Edgeville dungeon. This brings the dungeon more in line with the rest of the game as Jagex systematically update most of the graphics throughout Runescape.

Also out this month is a new and improved intelligent audio system. The new system means that players no longer have to listen to the beginning of the same songs over and over as they move about the game. For those who have managed to unlock 500 of the Runescape songs, there is a new Air Guitar Emote which comes complete with its very own audio clip (which frankly blows!).

In video creator news... Dudefish 15 has just reached the very giddy heights of RANK 21 in the prayer highscores. What a LEGEND! If you didn't manage to make it to the party then you can watch the moment and ensuing drop party by clicking here.

Summoning

16/01/2008

After many weeks of hype and anticipation in equal measure, the summoning skill has finally arrived. I spent most of the first day taking a good look at it and here are my early conclusions.

Contrary to an early report from Jagex about this skill, levelling is not "moderatly expensive". In truth the cost of the skill puts it well out of the reach of the majority of Runescape players. If you want to use what is, in many players opinion, the best method to level 99, it will cost you well in excess of TWO HUNDRED MILLION GP.

Despite the fact that the skill is named summoning, most of your experience points will come from picking up gold charms and putting those in pouches along with dead body parts and random items.... ummmmm. If you can be bothered to do any REAL summoning, you will soon find that you are not rewarded for your efforts. This is an EPIC FAIL on Jagex's part, its like telling a chef that the best way to learn his art is by spending all of his time gathering ingredients.

Well hidden also (until now) is the fact that summoning is the slowest skill to level in the game. After over 24 hours, the #1 summoner has only just reached 100k xp. If you're interested in levelling this skill up high then it will cost you in time as well as money for what seems to be little more than a boost in your combat level.

It will therefore now come as little surprise to you that I have decided not to power level this "skill" and for many reasons. The skill is confused and concentrates on all the wrong things. Much of it can be paid for which means that if you decide to race it, you wont be going up against the best power levellers, you'll just be up against the rich wannabe power levellers. I'll be doing some levelling of it of course but I doubt I'll go very far beyond level 60. I'll also be taking my time...

New Quest + Balanced Trade Update

08/01/2008

The Quest guide for Dealing With Scabaras, has been completed and you can check it out by clicking here. Any corrections to this guide should be submitted in the usual place on the forums.

The all new balanced trade rule came into effect on the 1st of January. All we can do now is sit back and wait to see whether the benefits outweigh the costs of such a change to the game. Players with more quest points are given more room to deviate from the market value of an item. That said, the result of this update is a very unpractical trade system that has also spoilt many other aspects of the game, e.g. giving gifts or lending items to friends. Until this new system is changed, I will also have to put a hold on the screenshot competitions that we have here at RG as we can no longer give out the prizes.

In video making news... Some of you know that I am working on something that is rather.... optimistic. Its a fairly big project that is non Runescape related. If common sense had anything to do with my video making decisions then I've have dismissed the idea long ago but personally I don't think common sense and video making should ever be used in the same sentence (except this one).

Level 138 Combat! How Summoning Effects Everything

20/12/2007

Jagex have just released the 3rd instalment in their summoning development diary. Here are the Key points you should note:

  • Summoning will be considered a combat skill and will consequently raise the maximum combat level to 138

  • Summoning uses energy that must be re-charged at an obelisk

  • The skill is set to effect a lot of other skills including prayer. A new protect against summoning prayer will be released with the skill

  • Summoning will be fairly slow and moderately expensive to level up. Higher level familiars will cost more to summon than lower ones

  • Summoning will be introduced to the game in way of a quest called Wolf Whistle

So what does this mean... It means that the release of summoning in a few weeks time should be considered HUGE. That's even if the skill turns out to be on the disappointing side. People will power level it just to be one of the first to hit the new maximum combat level. Add those people to the usual suspects you see skill racing and you have potentially the most brutal skilling scrap ever seen (did I say that the levelling was going to be slow? -.-).

As for the skill itself, I cant say I'm that thrilled with what I've seen so far in the development diary. Hopefully the graphics and game play will live up to the inevitable hype. Everyone should check out the obelisks just north of Falador though to familiarise yourself with what will almost certainly be part of this new skill.

2007 Draws to a Close

19/12/2007

Seasons Greetings Runescapers! =)

First a few words about the recent "game changing" updates that we've seen on Runescape. I've been so busy I barely had any time to check them out myself never mind review any of them... however, I have now had a good look a the updates that everyone seems to be ranting about.
I wont be going into great depth as it seems a little late for that but I will say that these updates are, in my opinion, quite poor. This doesn't mean to say that they mean that Runescape is dead and I feel its important for everyone to try and work with Jagex instead of against them so that we can make improvements to the current situation. I feel that the changes made by Jagex are very brave indeed and hopefully some kind of compromise can be found so that large numbers of players are not effected too much by those who try and spoil the game.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported my video making this year. Making original videos can be quite difficult and even a bit risky at times as you never quite know how they will be received by the viewers. I appreciate the support you guys have given me and hopefully I'll be able to reward this support with even more videos in 2008! Thanks ;)

Plans for 2008

First and foremost, I'm going to get promoting the site a bit more. It's something I never bothered doing until recently and even now I'm seeing significant improvements. Thanks to everyone who has helped with this promotion.

Improved Downloads area: Atm I'm just testing out the capability of the server as far as the downloads section on this site is concerned. The only limitation is bandwidth which, although technically unlimited, is limited by server power. Hopefully I'll be able to expand this new area and add some groovy new downloads for you so watch this space ;)

Dedicated Server: I'm currently looking around for a competitively priced dedicated server. Dedicated hosting can be expensive :( but in the long run it will be worth it as I'll know in the back of my mind I'll have the server power to cope with any advertising campaigns I embark upon

Merry Xmas everyone. Good luck in 2008.

Summoning Gets Closer

06/12/2007

The skill that was first talked about way back in early 2004 is very much on the minds of many a Runesape player. Summoning is on the way!

Jagex have just released the second in their Summoning development diary in which they talk about some of the processes that were used in the creating of the NPC's that will be used in this new skill. Initial concerns I had, that the skill really would turn out to be "Petscape", have been reduced (if only slightly).

This new update will be just as exciting for the game creators as it is for the gamers themselves. The last time a new skill appeared, traffic to the Runescape website increased so much that it rivalled the site traffic for the biggest game in this genre. Things have remained that way ever since.

As usual, players will try to prepare for this new skill so they can be part of the insanity that follows a new skill release... Who will be first to level 99? Will Darkforest67 become the newest #1 player in the game if only for a few weeks? Will Inuyasha create a new account to race against the best once more? Will skill information be leaked to that same player who always gets double the xp compared to everyone else in the early stages of the race of  every single new skill (who shall remain nameless for now...)? LOL Only time will tell...

As for myself... I know everyone is expecting me to race but tbh I don't know if I will. At the moment it looks like I will be busy IRL but even if I'm not, nothing is certain. In the meantime I suggest everyone look after their bird eggs and stock up on pure essence ;)

The Grand Exchange Is Here!

26/11/2007

Easily one of the most anticipated updates of the year. The Grand exchange has been released!
This new update offers Runescape players the ability to buy and sell any tradable Runescape items whilst at the same time being able to go off and do something a little more fun than standing around selling all day. This new update can be found in the North-West part of Varrock.

Here are a few important/key points about this new facility:

1. The exchange can be used to buy or sell.
2. You don't see a list of things for sale. Instead, you either place items in the exchange or search a particular item and make an offer. The Clerks then match buyers up with sellers.
3. When a trade is complete, the winners are sent an alert.
4. You can pick up your money/item from the exchange or any Runescape bank.
5. The trades continue to take  place even when you are logged out of the game (cool eh?! :)).
6. The exchange also doubles up as a bank. You can use it to withdraw items in the usual way.
7. If you're selling a large quantity of one item, other players can buy just some of them and the rest will continue selling.
8. There are limits to how much over or under the market value you can offer when either buying or selling, (5% each way) to help keep the economy stable.
9. The maximum price for items at the exchange is considerably less than the price in the shops.
10. The exchange is across all servers. If you sell something on one world, it is up for sale on all the others too.
11. If you change your mind about an offer, you can right click on it and abort by talking to a Clerk.
12. Players can take part in a maximum of 6 trades at one time (or 2 if they aren't a member yet).

So what does this all mean? It means that for a lot of people, merchanting is a thing of the past. This won't be the case for everyone though. Players with huge stacks of cash will still be able to make money off this new system quite easily but for your average Runescape merchant... It's pretty much over. This new system is also great for new players who have no idea what the prices of items are. Instead of unwittingly selling their resources at silly prices to merchants, they can now get a much fairer price for their efforts at the grand exchange.

Other points of interest: If you are rich enough then the maximum amount of money you can use in a single trade is 2.147 Billion gp. This also happens to be the maximum amount of money that a Runescape player can have in the game at any one time. That will get you 103 Santa Hats at the current market value... The market value of some items in the exchange will be up for debate for quite a while I think. I won't be one of the one's complaining though. Any update that favours skilling over shortcut playing can't be bad in my opinion.

Update Rating: 9.5/10

Duel Arena Tournaments - High Level Update

20/11/2007

Something tells me that opinion over this latest update will be somewhat divided.

Jagex have released an all new way for players to duel at the Duel Arena. Instead of simply fighting a single opponent, you pay an entry fee in a tournament with up to 64 other players. Winner takes all but even if you don't win you can still gain tournament ranking points. Along with this update, Jagex have also put a 3K limit on the staking arena to help stop real world gold trading.

On arrival at the arena, players are given a tournament rank based on their combat stats. With this rank they can then enter the tournament at either level 1 or level 2 out of a possible 4 levels. The higher the level, the larger the rewards. To enter the higher level tournaments, players must raise their tournament rank by doing well in the duels. Here are a few points you should take note of with these tournaments:

1. If you die you won't lose any items
2. You cannot pot up before a tournament starts (so no bypassing the no potion rule ;))
3. If the round runs out of time then the combatant with the higher hp will take the win (possible room for improvement here).
4. If it says you can heal BETWEEN rounds then it does this automatically. No need to eat any food.
5. At the risk of scaring a lot of players away from this minigame... High combat is a must unless you're planning on getting very lucky.
6. You can set your DD++ to specials before the tournament starts.

Here are a few tips for winning:

Dragon dagger ++, abyssal whip, rune defender or shield and your very best armour for starters. Beyond this it will be a matter of what the rules currently are and what you can afford. Supersets, prayer pots and anti poisons are great to have if the tournament allows potions. Watch out for people using Ancient Magics and maybe consider using these yourself (or dragon hide armour to ward against it). If they become too much of a problem then avoid tournaments with magic in altogether.

When a fight starts, it's important to get your first hit in before your opponent and especially if you're up against any mages. To do this, you can find out your opponents name in the top right of the screen (there's a small panel). Use this to quickly locate him/her with a right mouse click when the game is frantic.

Conserve your special attacks. If you have high combat and you're up against a player 30 levels lower than you, don't use all your specials on him. It's fun... but in the next round you could be up against a much tougher opponent.

Conclusion: The duel arena update favours higher level players as these are the people who are going to be taking the winnings. I expect that with some practice and perhaps some organisation/team work, playing this new minigame could prove to be highly lucrative. The biggest losers are pures and real world gold sellers.

New Forum Moderator + Runescape Beatbox 2

19/11/2007

Hey Nubs XD

I am happy to announce... That we have a new moderator on the forum! That new mod is Himthere32 and he's doing a great job. We've already got him making cups of tea and washing all our dirty dishes here at Runegamer.

In video making news - I've started work on Runescape Beatbox 2 and have most of the footage I need. The editing for this one will take quite a bit longer than the first but I'm getting there :). I expect this video to be released in the next few days.

In Youtube video news, the fastest growing Runescape channel on Youtube is officially Tehnoobshow! In a very short space of time, he has already amassed over 700 subscribers and his popularity shows no signs of slowing. I'm featuring one of his vids for the second consecutive week as they really are that good.

Land of the Goblins + Guide

12/11/2007

A new Quest plus game area has been released. The quest is called Land of the Goblins which explores a lot more of the Dorgesh Kaan goblin history.

The guide for the quest is already complete. You can check this out by clicking here.

In other news, after fiinishing a complete set of quest guides here at Runegamer, I am now giving the skills pages a bit of a tweak/update. This is to pave the way for future power levelling strategies on this site.

~theunforgiving~

Skill Assist System

05/11/2007

Jagex have released a new skill assist system. You can now use the skills of higher level players to do certain things in the game which you normally couldn't.

**The most important thing to note about this update is that you cannot use it to power level. There is a limit of 30,000 xp per day that you can gain using this facility. This should help keep balance in the game.**

You should also take note of the following points:

1. If you are offering assistance then you cannot do any skilling yourself at the same time.
2. If you are offering assistance you are able to chat at the same time
3. If you are offering assistance then all the experience goes to you

4. If you are requesting assistance then you don't acquire experience
5. If you are requesting assistance you must provide all your own tools and raw materials

Assistance with non-skill based spells and assistance with quests cannot be requested. Players offering assistance are also able to change the game settings in the same way as private or clan chat if spamming becomes much of a problem.

On the whole, this seems to be a good update and it should make for a more friendly atmosphere in the game. There will certainly be opportunites for players with high levels in skills like crafting to make money off of this especially after skill updates.

Quest Guides + New Site Look

04/11/2007

After 2 long months of research, picture taking, editing, and guide writing... The Runegamer quest guides are now complete and uploaded!! I'd just like to thank everyone who has offered support during these last few weeks as its thanks to you that I had the motivation to complete the job :)

Along with these quest guides, Runegamer now has an all new look and I hope you like it. Releasing the quest guides seemed a significant milestone in Runegamer history so I felt the site deserved a bit of a makeover to mark the occasion.

The skilling guides are as they were pre-quests. Some of these are going to be updated in the near future so that they correspond to some of the recent skill changes in the game and I'll try to get those updates sorted as soon as possible.

If anyone has any suggestion or ideas for improvements then you should feel free to voice these opinions on our forums.

Quest Data Gathering Is Complete

20/10/2007

I've finished writing all the quest walkthroughs. While doing these, I have collected many screenshots along the way (a total of 1,263 giving this folder a size of 2.73 gigs lol). All mapping of quest areas, where appropriate, is also complete with pictures ready to be rolled out.

3 tasks still remain to finish the job properly. Firstly I'll trim all those screenies down to size, secondly I'm going to redesign the main site template (not enormously, just give it a tweak here an there) and then finally the quest pages will be built and all linked to the rest of the site.

Shouldn't take too long now. The hard part is now over :)

Infinite Stock In Shops

02/10/2007

The Shops in Runescape have been updated to counter the auto and bot problems in the game. The new system is one where each shop has a MAIN STOCK where you can buy an infinite number of a particular resource but at a higher price. There is also a PLAYER STOCK where you can get things more cheaply but more often than not, nothing will be there. Where you can buy infinite resources at a shop you can also buy X which will make things easier for some skills.

Here is some information on how the stock changes relate to certain skills:

Runecrafting/magic: You can buy all the runes you need at magic shops. The prices of the main stock is around market value or higher. This means that players who worked hard for higher runecrafting levels have not had yet another kick in the teeth by another Jagex Nurfing (amazingly).

Crafting: It is now much easier to buy thread as no world hopping is required. You cannot buy gems in main stock anywhere though.

Herblore: Infinite Vials of water are now available at 10gp each or empty ones at 5gp each. Eyes of newts can also be bought in bulk. For some reason you cannot buy chocolate bars or dust in the main stock at the Grand Tree. You can, however, buy infinite chocolate at Nardah herblore shop or from Adrdougne Bakery.

Smithing: You cannot buy infinite ores from anywhere and that includes the blast furnace in Keldagrim. The player stock in the blast furnace re-sets at 100 of each ore though.

Cooking: Fishing shops do not have raw fish in stock except some cases where you can buy shrimp and sardine. Gerrants in Port Sarim is an example of this where you can buy infinite sardine for 10gp each. This should be good for quickly getting the lower cooking levels as there is a range closeby.

Ranged: The archery shops stock infinite arrows in most cases. The prices are equal to, or higher than, the market value.

Fishing: Infinite feathers can be bought from any fishing shop for 6gp each.

As far as I can see, this update is a good one. Any update that makes things difficult for botters can't be bad in my opinion. Jagex have managed to keep things balanced by making the prices in the main stock higher than you might usually offer on the street.

In other news, Edgeville has been given a graphical makeover. This brings it in line with the other recently updated towns in Runescape and so far... it's looking good :)

Ourania Alter and Experience Rates

19/09/2007

The Ourania runecrafting alter update favours high level players more than anyone else (which makes a nice change). The runecrafting experience you can gain using pouches, amulets of glory and lunar magics is much higher than expected. If you have a medium to high level defence, 75 runecrafting and level 71 magic then this is the place to level up your runecrafting.

This will almost certainly be the end of rune running at the law alter as not only is the RC XP anything up to 40,000 XP per hour at the new alter, it also offers crafters a decent amount of profit (though nothing like that you will gain with double nats). This is compared to only 28,000 XP per hour at the law alter and a 300,000 GP loss per hour. Even at lower rc levels the XP at the Ourania cave is good providing that the crafter has a decent defence level. The lower your defence, the slower the XP rate will be. If you find you cannot make at least 15,000 runecrafting XP per hour at the Ourania alter then you should craft airs instead (paying runners). This will be reflected in the runecrafting section after I have carried out a few more tests.

In other experience rate news. The Varrock achievement diary, rewards the people who complete it with Varrock armour's 1, 2 and 3. You can use these to enter the new furnace to the east of Edgy bank, however the number of extra bars you will smith is very few and the increase in the experience rate is so small that it is immeasurable.

I can therefore confirm that the fastest place to smelt bars is still the furnace at Neitiznot.

Exchange code & Quest Guides.

13/09/2007

After listening to some of the feedback from our regular users here at Runegamer, I have decided to remove the Bravenet traffic sharing code from this site. It's too intrusive and does nothing to improve the overall aesthetics of the site. What this means is that there will no longer be any kind of pop up or pop under on this site due to traffic exchanging. This should make browsing Runegamer a more enjoyable and relaxing experience.

In other news: The construction of quest guides for this site is well under way. This upcoming update will be the largest and most comprehensive update on Runegamer since the launch 11 months ago. This is expected in the next 2 weeks if all things go well. The guides will be the most up to date Runescape quest guides anywhere on the net and will include screenshots of some of the latest Runescape graphical updates where appropriate. The guides have been simplified as much as possible with the emphasis on getting them done with the greatest of ease.

The Runegamer screenshot competition is heating up now. There are only 2 days left to post your screenies so you should try and do this as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Godsword Gets a beating from the Whip

30/08/2007

The whip wins.

Stats for the whip: 82 slash, 82 strength, Requires 70 attack
Stats for the GodSword (GS): 132 slash, 132 strength, 8 prayer, requires 75 attack

So when we have these facts, it looks like the GS is the clear winner. But wait, there’s more:

-The Whip is 1.5 times faster than the GS
-The GS is a two handed weapon.

This means that we can use either a rune defender or a shield with the whip. The most commonly used item is the defender, so we will use that for our comparison. Using a whip by itself ignores one major weakness of the GS; the fact that it is two handed. A person with a whip would be able to take advantage of a sheild or a defender, while a person with a GS would not. It is only common sense that a whip user would do so. Here are our new stats:

Stats for the whip + defender: 101 slash, 87 strength, Requires 70 attack
Stats for the GodSword (GS): 132 slash, 132 strength, 8 prayer, requires 75 attack

And here are the new stats when we add in all of the str enhancing gear that one usually pks with:

Whip: 124 slash, 126 strength, 10 prayer
GS: 155 slash, 171 strength, 18 prayer

Still, the GS has a edge, but the whip isn’t that far off. Now, in the time that the GS hits twice, the whip will hit 3 times. So lets multiply the values to factor in speed. Here are our new stats:

Whip: 372 slash, 378 strength, 10 prayer (not affected by speed)
GS: 310 slash, 342 strength, 18 prayer

So really, the whip is still superior. The GS would be lots of fun, with its unique specials and large hits, but it is just not as good as the old faithful whip.

This isn't the whip killer we had been waiting for.

Runescape Video Making Section

11/08/2007

Interested in making Runescape videos?

I have completed making a new section for this site. What you will find there is information you can use to help you get started making Runescape videos. If you are a complete beginner to this then don't worry. The guide starts out by assuming zero knowledge in this area, so you'll be able to get started there even if you know nothing about making Runescape videos.

For those of you already competent in this area, I have added an extra video that contains many points and tips that will help you promote your youtube channel. It will not give you definitive answers but if used together with imagination and good quality videos, will help you drive more people to your work.

Clan Chat

06/08/2007

Hiya people.

An all new clan chat option has been released onto the game today. What this means is that anyone in the game can set up their own private channel and invite anyone they wish to join them in this chat. People interested in taking part in this should take note of the following points:

1. You can only set up one chat channel per account.
2. You can only be in one chat channel at any one time.
3. You can set up ranks in the chat so that other players can remove trouble causers.
4. You can set how private you want your channel to be. Invite just a few friends or anyone who knows you.
5. To join a chat channel click on the join button then type in the name of the player who set it up.

So good update then? Most definitely. This new system will be great for setting up and running runescape companies. Also... its absolutely no coincidence that this update comes just 2 weeks after the EXP at pest control was heavily nerfed. I suspect that this update has been ready for a while, but to release it with pest control as it was would have resulted in even faster combat experience and consequently even more unbalanced gameplay.

Enjoy the update chatters :) If you want to come to the Runegamer channel then you can find out what it is on the Runegamer forum.

EXP at PC Much Lower Than Estimated

26/07/2007

As a result of continued testing at pest control, I can reveal that the true XP drop off at the mini-game is AT LEAST 48%. This is considerably higher than initial estimations of 32% based on hourly projections of possible points per hour.

The XP is far worse than expected mainly because the game is now extremely labour intensive. Players rely heavily on each other being alert for the whole 2 minute game. It is because of this reason and many others that Runegamer no longer encourages its readers to level combat in this way and this has been reflected in the PTP combat section. The best way to level up melee and range is now to combine each skill with slayer.

In other news, the Runegamer video making competition is well under way. First prize for winning this is 1 million GP. If you wish to take part then you'll need to sign up for the forums.

King's Ransom

24/07/2007

Today's main Runescape update was in form of a quest called King's Ransom. This quest is a continuation of the Murder mystery one, set in and around the Sinclair Mansion north of Seers Village.

On completion of the quest you are rewarded with the following:

1QP
5,000 magic XP
33,000 defence XP
5,000 XP reward lamp
Knight waves training ground

The training ground is located on the top floor of Camelot. In there you face Arthurs knights which get progressively harder from level 110 to 124. IF you die fighting these knights you don't lose any of your items. Items suggested for defeating the Knight waves are full guthans, superset, whip, dd++ and lots of food (though very little is needed with a high combat level). The rewards for defeating the Knight Waves are:

20,000 XP to attack, strength and defence
Ability to use new prayers, Chivalry and Piety

Here is an explanation of the prayers.

Prayer Level required Bonuses
Chivalry 60 Defence +20%
Strength +18%
Attack +15%
Piety 70 Defence +25%
Strength +23%
Attack +20%

These cannot be used in conjunction with the other, neither can they be used at the same time as any other prayer that boosts mellee, mage or range stats. Should be great to use in CW and wildy though.

EXP at Pest Control Lowered

17/07/2007

Don't have a cow manThe experience available at pest control has been seriously lowered. I must admit that I didn't expect to see this... ever! The reason for this is that in general the Runescape updates we have seen have been geared towards making the game easier for newcomers. Examples of this are cook X, the Pyramid for fast thieving, make X arrows etc etc.

The biggest losers (XP wise) are high level players. Early tests have shown that the amount of XP available at pest control for players level 100+ has been reduced by a whopping 32%. Many people have not realised that the XP drop is quite this much. The XP has been hit hard twice. The massive drop is disguised by giving players more points than usual but the potential XP is slashed first because the points are worth only 35% of the old value and secondly it takes at least 2 minutes to complete every round many of which you will fail as the game has been tweaked to stop power levelling.

Good move then? Maybe it is, if only to see 500 noobs rioting in Fally central because they're not happy with the XP rate. The people happiest with this will be the high ranking attack players who have long campaigned for such an update (the ones who gained their ranks before PC existed). Time will tell whether Jagex bow to the noob pressure they're currently under or not. Personally I hope they don't.

13/07/2007

Well its taken a while but I am finally settled after a second house move in just 3 months. I'm very happy here so hopefully I won't need to move again in a long old time. What this means is that Runegamer will revert back to its usual fast updates so stay tuned ;)

Next Video
For those of you waiting for my next video release on youtube... I'm working on one that I've been planning for some time but have been unable to finish due to being very busy in rl. This next video is expected to be released in the next 1-2 weeks depending on how the filming goes.

The Cookie Monster?
Sometimes it really is better not to ask.

Dragonfire Shield

18/06/2007

New armour update.

A new dragonfire shield has been released. To get one you must first get hold of a visage (dropped by dragons), and then smith it into a dragonfire shield by using it with an anti dragonfire shield. Level 90 smithing is required to do this.

Once you have the dragon fire shield you should charge it by fighting dragons. The more charges you get the more powerful the shield becomes. The following table shows how a fully charged Dragonfire shield compares to a standard dragon square shield.

Item Attack bonuses Defence bonuses Other
st sl cr m r st sl cr m r str pr

Dragon
Square
+0 +0 +0 -6 -2 +50 +52 +48 +0 +50 +0 +0

Dragonfire
Shield
(with 50 charges/full)
+0 +0 +0 -10 -5 +70 +75 +72 +10 +72 +7 +0

Dragonfire shield wins and by some way too. The Dragonfire shield requires 75 defence to wield and it also has a special attack. You can use the charges from being attacked by dragons as a special. Doing this lowers the attack and defence bonuses though but if you're fighting dragons to do this then you'll quickly get recharged anyway. This new weapon will make the tougher slayer masters more popular for a while but unfortunately it still won't be a long term solution to slayer.

Good luck with the visage drops - I'll see you all ingame.

Dark Bow Gets Nerfed

14/06/2007

As expected, the Dark Bow has been nerfed. What this means is that although it can still hit as hard as it always could, it does so far less frequently. I'm sure the debate about whether this is in line with the combat triangle (as we understand it) will rage for some weeks to come.

This news will certainly be welcomed by those who decided not to fork out several million for the latest range update. The price of the Dark Bow quickly dropped from around 10mil to around 5-6 mil on the first day. This price is expected to drop even further as a result of the nerfing.

In other news. The votes
