One of the most important skills in
Runescape is this one - Magic. Used for so many things and in combination
with so many other skills. Used for transportation, combat - pretty much
everything so it's important to level up your magic early. Don't be
overwhelmed by all the different spells availible to you. To efficiently get
to level 99 magic you only need to use a few of them.
Your first target is to get to level
55. With this magic level under your belt you will open up many money making
opportunities in the other skills which will fund your levelling even
further
The levelling method for this guide is
as follows:
1-55 Wind/water/earth/fire strike
55-99 High alchemy
1-37 Strike spells on various low
level monsters
The reason why I'm going for strike spells for the early levels up to 55
is because the runes are extremely cheap and also abundant as players who go
to barrows tend to pick up a lot there then flog them off cheap on the
forums. Also the XP rate is perfectly acceptable.
I don't recommend you go for chaos
spells as it's an enormous price difference for a relatively small increase
in the XP rate.
Its not too important as to which low
level monster you choose as long as you don't go for one whose level is
considerably higher or lower than your magic level. The following choice of
monsters is a good one:
1-10 Goblins (Lumbridge)
10-20 Dwarves (Dwarven mines)
20-37 Scorpions (Al Karid mine)
Equipment:
Suitable magic equipment is very cheap. Buy a hat from Port Sarim, skirt
from Varrock clothes shop and either buy a top from other players or kill
wizards at wizards tower south of Draynor. Along with these you should buy 1
each of the elemental fire staves (central Varrock), a magic amulet and also
pick up a dragon fire shield off the Duke in Lumbridge Castle.

37-55 Fire strike on Lesser Demons:
At level 37 you will be able to cast the Falador teleport (with 1 law,
1 water and 3 air runes). At this point you should use this spell, bank at
Falador east bank and walk south to port Sarim. Here take a boat for 30gp
to Karamja island. Walk west and up the volcano, at the top go down the
rope, then walk west past the skeletons and then south a bit to the Lesser
Demons.
Even though your magic is only 37 at this point it
is fine for levelling on these monsters as they have very weak magical
defence. Use the rocks in the middle of the lesser group to hide behind.
Note:
At level 40 magic you will be able to wear mystic robes as long as you
have at least 20 in defence. Even though these do offer a significant magic
bonus it is not enough, in my opinion, to warrant the 200k price tag. It's
best to stick with your newbie robes and get to high alching as cheaply as
possible.

55-99 High alching
High alching is the perfect way to level magic and efficiently chain
together compatible skills. The best items to high alch are either Yew
longbows or Steel plates. To do this you will need a large amount of
nature runes, a fire staff and the item you want to alch in NOTED form.
As you progress through the game and develop other
skills you will find even better ways of doing your high alching. Its a
great skill to combine with slow regenerating resources such as runite
rocks, gems at the gem stall and trees.
