Prayer

Welcome to the prayer section.

Prayer is a skill which is best levelled up at the same time as combat. When you kill a monster you should always bury the bones as if you don't it is tantamount to throwing away valuable prayer experience which will have to be paid for later if you don't use it now. If you are levelling up with pest control then you should dedicate some of your pest points to prayer levelling.

As you train your combat in the normal way, prayer always lags behind the other combat stats so eventually you will need to pay to raise it if you are to increase your combat level when your other fighting stats are maxed out. Technically this buying and levelling with bones is a power method but I will show you in this guide how to level up in the most efficient manner, while using as little money as you can afford.

First lets take a look at the different levelling methods in these tables. All alter XP rates are based on having both burners lit and using teleports to your house and back to Falador. The methods are as follows:

Ectofuntus:
Recommended skills: 58 agility
Items required: Ectophial, amulet of ghost speak, 13 pots and 13 buckets
Bank at Port Phasmatys bank
Withdraw 13 pots and 13 bones
Ecto tele to the Ectofuntus
Go upstairs and grind the bones into meal
Go back to the bank and withdraw 13 buckets
Tele back to the ectofuntus
Go to the pool in the basement and fill up all your buckets
Tele back to the top
Worship the ectofuntus and collect tickets from a disciple.
Return to bank, deposit your buckets and repeat

Alters:
For this to be done properly you will need a portal chamber next to the chapel (or loads more runes in the long run). The portal chamber needs to be set up with a Faldor teleport. This done you should equip an air staff and put some earth runes in your inventory along with some laws and a tinder box with which to light the burners.
Bank at Falador west
Withdraw 25 bones then teleport to your house
Run into the chapel and light the 2 burners with your tinderbox
Use the bones with the alter to gain experience
Run into the portal chamber and portal back to Falador
Run west to the bank and repeat

Experience rates (average)

Big bones

Method XP/hour XP/B-bone
Ectofuntus 8580 60

Oak alter 29,250 30
Teak alter 30,713 32
Cloth alter 32,906 34
Mahogany alter 36,563 38
Limestone alter 40,219 41
Marble alter 43,875 45
Guilded alter 51,188 53

Dragon bones

Method XP/hour XP/D-bone
Ectofuntus 41,184 288

Oak alter 140,400 144
Teak alter 147,420 151
Cloth alter 157,950 162
Mahogany alter 175,550 180
Limestone alter 193,050 198
Marble alter 210,600 216
Gilded alter 245,700 252

At first glance the Ectofuntus looks VERY slow compared to using an alter (which it is of course) but if you look at the amount of XP you are getting per bone you will realise that gaining XP with the Ectofuntus is going to be cheaper.

But is it cheap enough? - I don't think so, and not compared to the XP rate. Even if you are using the oak alter the prayer XP rate is more than 3 times as fast and with the gilded alter this is almost 6 times as fast!!! By this point the XP you are getting per big bone or dragon bone is almost as high as the experience you get at the Ectofuntus.

In conclusion. Don't use the Ectofuntus. Use the alters. If you have low level construction you may still be able to use someone else's high level alter if you ask them nicely, but if you can't then you should be confident that your levelling is still relatively efficient.

Note: Prayer levelling times and resources will appear soon in the upcoming POWER section of this site.
