Note: Pest control is no longer an efficient method for
training range. The XP has been reduced by almost half so it is now far
better to combine your range training with slayer.
Ranging is a great skill and fun to
use when you have reached a decent level. Two very popular ways of doing so
are with either steel arrows or iron knives. All the levelling times in this
method are going to be with steel arrows. I may add another one for iron
knives at a later date if there is enough interest.
Weapon and armour choices: Ranger armour is cheap so make sure
you are wearing the best possible leathers or dragon skin for your level. Also equip the
best possible bow. It is a good idea to buy all the short bows you are going
to need right up to mage short before you actually need them. DON'T use longbows
or crossbows. They are slow and no
good for anything.
Attack style: The best attack style for levelling
range is RAPID so make sure you set this before each session of range
training
Arrow loss:
When training it is generally better to pick up arrows
you use, preferably before someone else does. This makes for more
cost effective levelling. If you make sure that the monster you're training
on is not too much higher than your range level then arrow stealers will not
be a problem as you will finish killing the monster before any stealers have
a chance to pick them up.
Ava's Accumulator:
This is the perfect item to equip for ranged training. The
benefit of this item is that, when equipped, the rate at which
you lose your arrows is drastically reduced. The accumulator
also gives you a healthy ranged bonus. It is the main reward for
completing the Animal
Magnetism quest.
The levelling spots for this guide are
as follows:
1-20 Goblins at Lumbridge
20-30 Dwarves at the Dwarven mines
30-50 Druids at Taverly
50-99 Ogres (various places)
During peak gaming hours you may find
some of these spots are not so great for levelling. If this is the case then
simply change world or change the monster you are levelling on (to one of a
similar level).
