Slayer
If you prefer to level up skills in a
more balanced way then slayer could be the one for you. The combat experience you gain will be slower than that of
ordinary combat because, more often than not, you will have to kill monsters
which are not ideal for combat levelling.
On the plus side of this, you will be levelling up 2 skills
together which will raise your overall ranking position faster than training
combat alone.
When the skill first was released the
money to be made was INSANE! Nowadays its not so great unfortunately so
don't go expecting to leap from rags to riches in this skill. If you want
that then do runecrafting.
Note: I will not be offering
timing tables for this skill for obvious reasons. You cannot predict which
monsters you are going to get in a slayer task. Players have different ways
of levelling up, some prefer different slayer masters. Either way, the time
it takes for players to reach each level is going to vary an awful lot -
hence, no times. (sorry)
Choosing a slayer master: Very
important which one you go for. If you are in any doubt which one to choose
then you should go for the masters which offer weaker monster tasks. The
reason for this is that if you try to punch above your weight and take on an
unsuitable task then the XP rate will be terribly slow.
I have spoken at length to many
reputable Runescapers. Some of the highest ranking ones actually use
Burthorpe as their slayer master of choice! Surprising at first but on
closer inspection of the skill you will find that the monsters tasks offered
are on monsters which offer decent XP and with a medium to high combat level
this is all free as no food will be required. As a rule of thumb you should
not use a slayer master any higher than Vannaka (in Edgeville dungeon)
unless, of course, Jagex have just released a dragon Plate....!
Its easy to get stuck in a rut with
many Runescape skills mainly due to the repetitive nature of the game play
but its important to keep yourself well informed of the games updates and
adjust the way you play accordingly.
Of ye cannon... Only use a
cannon to train slayer if you are insanely rich otherwise you will quickly
fritter your money away on a skill which currently offers very little
financial reward, especially when levelling efficiently.
That said... If you are given a large
amount of cannon balls during a deal then you should definitely use them and
specifically with the Edgeville slayer master. This master offers tasks
which are perfectly suited to using the cannon. The best tasks are the ones
in MULTI combat areas. These are Dagganoths and Kalphites especially. A
typical Dagganoth slayer task can be completed in 10 minutes with the
cannon.
If you DO use the cannon then don't
forget to reset it after a while. This is after 500 shots with Dagganoths
and 350 shots with Kalphites and other monsters.
The black mask: The black mask
is a slayer-specific piece of equipment. If worn on a slayer task then you
will be rewarded with the following stat bonuses:
Attack 15% increase
Strength 15% increase
Charges on the mask used to lower monsters defence.
You also get a small increase in defence by wearing it.
To acquire this rather useful mask you
will need level 58 slayer. You can then get the mask by killing Cave Horrors
at the Mos Le'harmless caves. The drop is quite rare though so make sure
you're well stocked up on food.
