Theunforgiving is my youtube account which I
created on June the 30th 2006. This page will explain how I
built the channel up from scratch to the well known Runescape
channel it is today.
Starting out
Before trying to make a Runescape video I spent some time
watching other people's. I quickly picked up
the basics of what made a successful one, then put that
information into practice.
My first Runescape
video. Contained a good title, content which was a recent
update on Runescape and also contained a good sound track.
When I first made this it was pretty exciting lol, but it's
not the kind of thing I'd do nowadays. It's just not pushing
the boundaries like some of my other stuff.
For a first video though, this is the kind of thing you
might like to do.
Runescape Quest Lunar Diplomacy
Skillcape videos
I continued to make videos quite similar to that
one until Jagex released the level 99 skillcapes. At the time, I
had just one skill cape (thieving) so I bought it and quickly
made a video which went on to be fairly successful which
encouraged me to do more skilling in the game.
Soon after I made my second level 99 cape video and shortly
after that I made the 99 hunter video. These three level 99 cape
videos stayed at around the same number of views for a long
time, that is, until one of them started to move ahead fairly
rapidly. Here it is:
After being level
on views with the other two 99 cape vids I made, this one
started to move ahead. At first I had no idea how
or why.
I can tell you why now though. If you go to some
other popular Runescape videos and then look in the RELATED
section, you'll find this one there more often than not.
Basically, this video is strongly linked to videos that rank
high when the word "runescape" is searched (though this
video doesn't rank all that high itself, it gets all its
traffic from other popular videos). This is all part of the
algorithm that ensures hundreds of people come to this video
every day and the longer it stays on youtube, the more
popular it is likely to become.
Runescape Level 99 Capes Trimmed
I don't even consider it that good a video. I'd give it
around 3/5 if I'm being honest. The 99 hunter one is way
better in my opinion yet it gets far fewer views (though I cant
really complain lol).
A change in style
My next 4 videos after the 99 cape ones were rather
different. When I make a video, I like to enjoy it when I watch
it back and I was losing interest in my usual ones. I started to
inject a bit of humour into my vids while combing that with
Runescape updates.
This video is
responsible for the price of Red Chinchompas increasing to
over 1k each in under 24 hours.
A friend tipped me off
about the new range levelling system. Instead of using the
information to make a shed load of money, I made this video
instead ;)
Runescape Insane Range EXP
To make a Runescape video that is unlike anything else on
youtube can be very rewarding. Not only in terms of views,
ratings etc but as a video creator you will have a greater sense
of achievement if you upload something that is entirely new and
refreshing. If you combine good ideas with a sound knowledge of
what helps promote your videos then you can't go far wrong.
This video was made
to make fun of some of the worst players in Runescape. It makes
me laugh how the people who are being insulted actually
think they are in on the joke here and try to insult the
"noob" in this video, that is the spitting image of
themselves, by adding comments... lol.
The more I made original style videos like this, the more
confident I became in my ability to pull off more
outrageous ideas.

Adding Voice
After a long break from Youtube, I returned with some new ideas. I also started adding my own voice to
the videos.
The Runescape Big
Brother video. Probably one of my favourite ideas.
From
this point onwards, the editing of my videos would take 8-10
hours each. Add that to the filming time and time needed to organise people and it nearly becomes a full time
job lol.
Although this is a series of 2 videos, it was originally
designed to be all over in just one. I'm glad I split it
into 2 now as it's the voting in the first that generated
all the interest in the idea.

Upgrade to Sony Vegas + How to
pronounce Zezima Series
It was while making the Runescape Big Brother videos that I
reached the limitations of Windows Movie Maker. WMM is fine for
beginners but eventually you'll want to be adding extra video
tracks, audio tracks, effects and more impressive movie styles
that you just can't do with free software.
Designed to make
fun of
the people who tried to point out my pronunciation mistakes
in the Runescape Big Brother Series. I made the insult so
subtle that it just ended up confusing a lot of people (hahahah).
It spawned an entire new video series and gave me plenty
more opportunities to improve my Vegas editing skills.

Youtube change the video ranking
system
In the last month, Youtube have introduced a new ranking
system where new videos will feature high up on a search page
when certain keywords are typed into the search bar. It is this
new results system + algorithm that helped give this next video
over 45,000 views in 2 weeks.
Probably some of
the best editing I've done in any of my movies. Runescape
Beatbox is probably still my favourite video idea mainly
because of its simplicity and the fact that the making of it
was all about FUN. Although the video has been dwarfed by
later releases of mine, I still look back on the making of
it with a smile. Making videos now seems like such a huge
operation compared to this kind of stuff.
The
hardest part was recording the sound though. Going round and
round in the agility arena trying to fall in and then
getting the sound just right and at the right time when I
finally did... lol.
I made a second in the series which wasn't as good imo,
mainly because I spent little time working on the main part
and over 19 hours editing the lightsabers at the end.

Look after your subscribers and fans
Looking after your subscribers is as important as having good
quality videos. Having videos that are dedicated to your
subscribers will not only improve things between you
and them but it will also increase the rate at which you get
subscribed to.
I made this vid
soon after reaching 1000 subscribers. Naturally I wasn't
going to celebrate 1000 like any normal person so I went for
"nearly 1008" instead... makes perfect sense really.
The
speed at which I got subscribers after releasing this video
was 3-4 times faster than the speed before release, which
just goes to show what's possible with the power of
suggestion alone.
Nearly 1008 Subscribers! - Contains
Swearing
Ever since I stopped making power levelling videos and slowly
became more of a video creator, I've set myself 2 simple rules.
a) Any video uploaded must be unlike any other runescape movie
or be part of a unique series. b) The uploaded video must push
limits and/or boundaries (and not necessarily just video making
ones).
Making original videos in this way can be hard work and also
quite risky as you never really know how a new idea will be
received. Although I'd been happy with how my videos had been
doing on yt since the How to pronounce Zezima series it was
Runescape Karaoke that was to be my big pay-off...
Runescape Karaoke
The idea came to me one lazy afternoon in early January. I
was chatting to Vodka when I thought of it, immediately told her
and she took absolutely no convincing to take part. She was
involved in the making of it every step of the way and it's fair
to say that without her, the video probably never would have
happened and even if it did, it would have been completely
different and consequently nowhere near as good. <3.
Work on the idea
started very quickly. Dudefish and Fatwrecked were the first
to be roped in. An msn conference was set up to discuss it
while we got the rest of the singers interested and into the
chat.
Looking back I can see how important that first
conference was as it got people psyched up about an idea
that was completely ridiculous on paper. At some point I
think someone said "ok you first" so I hit F2 and sang some
of Barbie girl right there in front of everyone.
Recordings were made of everyone soon after and the
putting together of the video was very easy tbh. The video
was quickly uploaded to Youtube and went on to become one of
the biggest RS videos of all time.
The making of the second should have been easy but for
many reasons it wasn't. Things became complicated and it
took more than 3 times as long as the first to complete.
My intention this time was to concentrate on the actual
singing and have people singing harmonies together. This
worked out pretty well and overall I'm happy with the way
the second finally turned out. If I was to change anything
about this one then I would have tried not to make it so
similar to the first. Something I deliberately avoided in
the 3rd.
The long awaited 3rd in the series... Better than the
second in most areas but of course doesn't have the ground
breaking originality of the first. Included a lot of new
ideas and people and overall I'm pleased with the way it
turned out.
Much more time was put into the editing (some of which
was compromised time wise on upload... dam you youtube! Just
meant that the sound went slightly off sync but I don't mind
too much really).

What happens next?
Right now I have no plans for any big video's, I have ideas
but I wont be working on them for some time. Things irl are
starting to catch up with me that need dealing with so as of now
I'm taking a break. I'll be uploading smaller videos from time
to time though.
