history

I first started making videos in January 2007. At first I started off making short, tutorial videos to help others and improve their gameplay. I enjoyed the feedback I received, although it wasn't much. I enjoyed doing it though, and that was all that was important. As time progressed, I broadened my videos to include level 99 parties and update reviews. I always tried to be the first one with a video for an update XD Unfortunately school made that a little tough, so I gave up on it.

After a while I started seeing more and more RSMVs that were fun to watch, although I saw a lot that lacked any effort into the editing or capturing the storyline of the song. Therefore I wanted to try a music video of my own, and did one to the song Animal I Have Become. In my opinion, it's my best video. Even though it was done with Movie Maker, it was still fun to watch, quick paced, and unlike most videos, I captured the meaning of the song. Unfortunately a lot of people don't see and appreciate that, as when they hear the lyrics "This animal I have become!" they think of turning into an ape at ardougne zoo or wearing hunter gear, all in all the literal meaning of the verse. I chose to do the figurative and underlying message about a person gone corrupt, which I tried to show with my character having a split personality and look in the video.

I enjoyed the feedback from the video, and it was at that time my most successful video by far. So I chose to stick with it. I downloaded a trial for Camtasia Studio 5.0, and my friend gave me a key for a full version. I also pushed myself to learn how to use Sony Vegas 7.0, which our family just had lying around for a while. In short, Hey Driver was my first music video done in Sony Vegas, where I learned the effects and basic concepts of Vegas by myself, forcing me to learn how to achieve what I had in mind. It was fun and I loved how it turned out. Looked much nicer than my others videos as I now had the ability to crop and pan, which Movie Maker didn't allow.

Again, the feedback was great, so I found out this was what I needed to keep on doing. I was at a loss when deciding a song for my next video, so I had a poll, and the song that won that poll was Miss Murder by AFI. I personally loved the song and was hoping it'd win, and am thankful it did. My goal was to not let down anyone who voted in the poll, even those whose choice didn't win, so I made it a huge project of mine. I changed everything I could to fit the video: My outfit, clothing, items, and even wiped my whole house clean and redid it, probably spending 10 mil on furniture solely for the video. It took me a month to complete, but as I've heard countless times, it was totally worth it. On the first day I believe I had near 3,000 views, which was phenomenal for me. People commented on my page, left comments, favorited, rated 5/5, and everything about that video far surpassed any achievements I made on any prior. This is when I first started to become what some consider me as "famous".

So again, I kept with it. My next video was going to be The Pretender, although I did a remake of Animal I Have Become in the time between, since The Pretender was taking so long to complete. In a short amount of time, I released a remake of Animal I Have Become, The Pretender, and Word Up, which is where I've left off at.

In short, I started making videos in January 2007. By October, I had around 400 subscribers, when I made my first music video. Right on the second of January 2008, I reached 1,000 Subscribers, and that was when I released Miss Murder. Today, April 3rd, 3 months since that video and 3 more Music videos released, I'm just above 5,000 subscribers and have been getting near 100 per day. Can't wait to see what the future has to hold =)

Q & A

1. How long have you been making Videos on Youtube?
* The first ever video that I made was uploaded on January 12, 2007. It was a very amateur tutorial video, and didn't mean much. I'd consider my career starting with my first Music Video, as those are my priorities now. My first music video was made on October 26, 2007.

2. What was it that got you interested in video making in the first place?
* At first I started making videos to try and help others. Most of my first videos were guides, hints and tips, level 99 parties, or quick videos of new updates. So helping others I guess is what got me into it.

3. What Software do you mainly use to make your videos?
* For recording I use Camtasia Studio 5.0, and for editing I use Sony Vegas 7.0. I'm hoping to try some other programs as I can afford them and try them out, but I'll likely just stick with those two.

4. Do you ever get the feeling that video making is really cutting into your runescape playing time and if so what do you think about it?
* More than I ever imagined. Starting since about January 2008 I've hardly gotten the chance to go on and power level, which was what I mostly played for before hand. Every time I got on it seemed to be for some kind of video, or helping someone with theirs. Recently I've even been keeping my private chat to "off" since when it's on "friends", I still have to spend all my time responding to all the pms, and can hardly do anything else. So yes, it has definitely cut into my playing time, although I don't regret it.

5. Runescape video making has changed a lot over the last year. What kind of changes in Runescape video making do you expect to see in the next?
* As others have already mentioned, there's definitely going to be a lot more commentary. It's been a big hit lately and a lot of famous movie makers have started to include live commentary on many of their videos. Besides this, there will more than likely be many more pathetic attempts at comedy, more and more music videos, and Sony Vegas will be the average video editing software.

6. If there was one thing you could have done differently over your Video making career on youtube, What would that be?
* I would have done many of the ideas I came up with. I most definitely thought of making videos much like Tehnoobshow made, but I never went through with it, and now seeing it's major success, I see I should have. If you have a new idea that you think may be a hit, go through with it. You never know how great it will turn out.

7. Whats the longest amount of time you ever spent making one video.
* I believe around 2 months, for The Pretender. Generally my music videos take from a week to a month to make, as I want to make sure it's as close to perfect as possible. They're big projects for me. The Pretender I had to wait nearly 3 weeks so I can get an organized group together and record some scenes for the end of the video, so that took a long time to complete. Miss Murder also took a long time, nearly a month from start to finish.

8. Getting your videos out there is very hard now with so many video makers on Youtube. What kind of advice would you offer to new video makers who are struggling to find exposure they deserve.
* Use good grammar, be respectful to others, answer questions, get involved in the youtube community by making positive or helpful comments, ask questions when you can (people usually enjoy answering if you ask in the right way), and DO NOT ADVERTISE. Although you may get a few from advertising on the channels or videos of a famous runescaper, it will not be the type of attention you want, and in the end it'll hinder you from becoming as good as you may be in the future. Make good videos, wait until people take notice, and they'll do what they can to help you succeed if they like them enough.

9. What other things are you interested in apart from Runescape and video making?
* I like most all sports, more so participating in them than watching. I've always preferred to get involved than sit on the sideline and watch others do things for me. Besides that, I do play many other game consoles, computer games, hang out with friends, watch tv, and "READ" (omg did he just say read?!) Find a book that you choose to read on your own will and I'm quite sure you will enjoy it.

10. What other MMO's do you play apart from Runescape?
* Umm... none at the moment, although I have played several in the past, including WoW, Silk Road, Maplestory, and some others that I forgot. It's nice to try new games from time to time, try a new change of pace, some more combat-oriented games. As much as I love runescape, it's nice to play games with better graphics every once in a while ^_^
