I started making videos on Christmas Day 2006, a few days before
one of my friends started making a few so I decided to give it a go too. My
computer was my Christmas present so I was playing around pretty bored because
not many people were online, so I made my first vid which was just a random
castle wars game. The next few vids I made were more random videos I just felt
like uploading. My first big video was the '100k fire bolts on Steel Dragons'
video, after uploading this my channel started to get a bit more attention and
from this point on I started to get subscribers and video views much faster than
I used to. My next popular videos were '4 Clue scrolls!! Good rewards' and my
'99 hitpoint & monster drops' The clue scroll vid I think was one of the first
videos on Youtube showing a robin hood hat reward. The video that I think
started getting me a huge chunk of my subscribers is 'Dark Bow and Abyssal Whip
Drops' It was uploaded the day after the Dark Bow was released and along with
the new bow I added the whip drops to it, to make it more entertaining. I've
pretty much stuck to uploading a video every week, I've missed the odd week or
two but usually made up for it by uploading multiple videos another week. I hope
to continue making Runescape vids for a long time and seeing what the future
holds for Runescape vids :)

Q & A
1. How long have you been making Videos on Youtube?
Since December 25th 2006
2. What was it that got you interested in video making in the first place?
One of my friends on Runescape started making short videos
and sending them to me to watch, so I decided to try it out too and uploaded it
to Youtube.
3. What Software do
you mainly use to make your videos?
I use Screen Recorder Gold to record with, I do have
Camtasia recorder but find SRG more practical to use. For editing I currently
use Sony Vegas 7, although a lot of my videos have been done using windows movie
maker.
4. Do you ever get the feeling that video making is really cutting into your
runescape playing time and if so what do you think about it?
If I don't feel like making a video, I won't. I don't
really let it cut into my playing time, I only make the videos when I'm not
really doing anything else in game. Something that does affect my regular
playing though are all the questions some people ask, responding to people
constantly can be exhausting at times, especially if I'm busy in game trying to
do something :P
5. Runescape video making has changed a lot over the last year. What kind of
changes in Runescape video making do you expect to see in the next?
I think a lot more people will be getting into making
Runescape videos so it's going to get harder for them to get many views at first
(like it is already starting to). More people will be using better editing
software than windows movie maker so I think the videos will be presented better
(no doubt there's also going to be a lot of people over doing the effects too),
hopefully along with good footage.
6. If there was one thing you could have done differently over your Video making
career on youtube, What would that be?
Not much really, I'm pretty happy with what I've done. I
like the fact my older videos were pretty bad and gradually got better over
time. If I have to pick something it would be that I started making videos
earlier. ^_^
7. What's the longest amount of time you ever spent making one video.
From start to finish my 'Dark Bow & Abyssal Whip Drops 2'
took me around 3 and a half months... Originally I was planning on 15 Dark Bow
drops and a Dragon Full Helm drop vid, I spent a few weeks killing Dark Beasts
for the bow drops, then took around a weeks break then started work on the
'Dragon Full Helm for Christmas Goal' I killed Mith Drags for nearly a month
straight and was almost 100% sure I would get the helm for the vid, but it
turned out I never. So rather than uploading 15 Dark bow drops by themselves I
decided to just get a load of whips and make a sequel to the first Dark Bow and
Whip drops vid. Obviously I never spent 3 and a half months solid working on the
video, but during those 3 and a half months a large majority of my time was
spent working on it. The first Dark Bow drop I got was on the 11th of October
2007 and the final whip drop I got on the 29th of January 2008.
8. Getting your videos out there is very hard now with so many video makers on
Youtube. What kind of advice would you offer to new video makers who are
struggling to find exposure they deserve.
Just keep making good videos, a lot of people just expect
to upload a handful of videos and get famous from them. If you regularly make
videos people want to watch, after a while you will start getting
subscribers/views. It was months before I even got a thousand views, but I just
kept uploading a new vid around once a week and slowly my views/subscribers went
up. Try to think of new ideas for videos, try to make them something people
would enjoy watching and makes your videos stand out over the other random
Runescape videos that are our there.
9. What other things are you interested in apart from Runescape and video
making?
Other games, Music - mostly old school rap/hip hop,
Movies, Travelling - I'm pretty lucky and have been able to go to some great
places around the world on holiday and to live, Scootering - Don't do it much
anymore but I still wubz it <3, Drawing - Not bad but not amazing either lol,
just enjoy drawing stuff. :P
10. What other MMO's do you play apart from Runescape?
No other MMO's, the only other online game I've properly
played is Age Of Mythology, but it's pretty much dying down now :\ Never as many
people online as there used to be (whenever I try anyway). I used to make
scenarios on there (custom maps) which were starting to get fairly popular, but
my computer broke with all the maps saved on it so I lost them all and pretty
much stopped making them after that, so now near enough only play Runescape
rather than both.
